Fortis Hospital Noida, restarts its Liver Transplant OPD Services in Aligarh

Aligarh, 22nd July 21: Citing to the rising cases of liver ailments, Fortis Hospital, Noida restarted its OPD for liver and gastrointestinal diseases at Maxfort Hospital, Aligarh (in association with DoctPro). This is first of its kind setup to impart such super specialty services in the state having experts from the field of paediatric gastroenterology and hepatology, which until now did not exist.

The special OPD services is functional on fourth Thursday every month. It not only assists the patients of Aligarh & neighbouring areas with expert opinion but also cuts down on the effort of travelling to metro cities just for primary consultations. Present on the occasion were Dr Mukul Rastogi with his team along with the patient from Aligarh who underwent successful liver transplant surgery, where the liver donor was his own daughter.

“45-year-old patient, a resident of Aligarh had severe on and off fever for almost two years and unable to identify the underlying cause. He was under medication to suppress his fever but gradually began complaining of water in the stomach, swelling in the feet, jaundice, nasal bleed etc. and decided to make a visit to Fortis Hospital, Noida. Detailed investigations revealed liver cirrhosis due to diabetes, where the condition had progressed to such an extent that liver transplant was the only option. His family was counselled about live donor liver transplantation surgeries and its advantages in improving the quality of life. His unmarried daughter decided to pitch in and donate her liver.  For that, she first had to get fit herself which she did & then successfully donated her liver. The prevalence of liver diseases is on the rise in the country owing chiefly to lifestyle factors. The Liver disease range from mild spectrum of self-limiting illness due to infection or fat deposition in liver to the severe form with cirrhosis, acute or acute on chronic liver failure requiring transplantation. Liver diseases can result from several factors such as excessive consumption of alcohol, viral infections (hepatitis B, hepatitis C virus and other infections), autoimmune, drug / medications etc. Every year, approx. 10 lakh patients are reportedly diagnosed with liver cirrhosis across globe.
