Gurugram, 21st December 2024: In an endeavor to create awareness around blood disorders and cancer in children, the Department of Paediatric Hemato-Oncology & BMT at Fortis Memorial Research Institute (FMRI), Gurugram organized the ‘MasterChef for Golden Warriors’ - a non-fire cooking competition, exclusively for young survivors and their families. This unique event celebrated the courage and resilience of the young warriors, providing them with an opportunity to bond, showcase their creativity, and share moments of joy in a supportive and inspiring environment. As many as 25 cancer patients in the age group between 3 years to 17 years, along with their family members participated in the event. Renowned flood vloggers Mr. Nikhil Chawla and Ms. Priyanka Sharma were the judges at the competition. Participants prepared a variety of delicious no-flame dishes, such as chaats, salads and sandwiches etc., demonstrating their culinary skills. The event was made even more engaging with additional activities such as a magic show and tattoo-making, bringing smiles to everyone’s faces. Speaking about the event, Dr Vikas Dua, Principal Director and Head of Paediatric Haematology, Haemato Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram said, “The ‘MasterChef for Golden Warriors’ - a non-fire cooking competition is a powerful initiative to celebrate the courage and resilience of children battling blood disorders and cancer. This competition is more than just an event it embodies hope, strength, and our collective determination to defeat cancer. Together, we can not only raise awareness but also envision a future where cancer is no longer a feared adversary.” Yash Rawat, Facility Director, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram said, “The aim behind the no-fire cooking competition was to raise awareness about blood disorders and cancer in children. While these conditions are prevalent in both developing as well as developed countries, but general awareness remains low. ‘MasterChef for Golden Warriors’ is a manifestation of our commitment to fight the deadly disease and living healthier and being stronger. Childhood should be a time for kids to enjoy life, not a period spent fighting a challenging battle.”
