Multispecialty Screening Session for Bandra and Mahim Traffic Police at S. L. Raheja Hospital- A Fortis Asssociate
A multispecialty Screening Session was organized for traffic personnel from Bandra and Mahim Police at S L Raheja Hospital – A Fortis Associate today. More than 100 policemen attended the health camp where 30 doctors from the hospital conducted their medical examination. Tests like Electrocardiogram (ECG), Pulmonary Function Test (FCT), Random Blood Sugar, Blood Pressure, BMI tests were conducted. The team of doctors was led by Dr Bipin Chevale, Zonal Director, S L Raheja Hospital – A Fortis Associate.
The traffic police are exposed to polluted air and dirt of the road constantly. The presence of Carbon Monoxide (CO), Sulphur Oxide (Sox), Nitrogen Oxide (NOx), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and other particulate matter can result conditions like headache, nausea, dizziness, anxiety to causing cardiovascular disease, cancer and permanent damage to vital organs. Anyone exposed in polluted air for long hours are vulnerable and more prone to allergy and asthma. Constant exposure under asthmatic condition may Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Most of the policemen are unaware about the health risks that they are exposed to as there doubts were also addressed by the doctors at the camp.
Speaking about the health camp, Dr Bipin Chevale said, “It is important that our policemen get such medical care regularly. It is obvious that they work in hard conditions. It is important that signs like wheezing, shortness of breath, chest pain or tightness, coughing, sleepless nights should not go ignored. We are trying to ascertain if the policemen are perfectly alright or need further medical care and attention.”
